Grading:
At Mount Logan Middle School, we are moving toward a model of Standards-Based Grading. In Language Arts for 8th grade we have decided that all practice, assessments, etc. will be graded using a 0-4 scale. This 0-4 scale will be translated over to a letter grade to allow for better understanding.
Proficiency Scale Example:
4 I am able to cite relevant evidence and use the evidence to support a claim consistently.
3 Without help, I am able to cite relevant evidence and use the evidence to support a claim.
2 With help, I am able to cite relevant evidence and use the evidence to support a claim.
1 With help, I am not yet able to cite relevant evidence and use the evidence to support a claim.
0 I have not yet produced sufficient evidence for my teacher to evaluate my learning.
All throughout this year, we will look for multiple lines of evidence that a student has mastered a skill. Language Arts is a subject where many skills overlap and we look to see those skills demonstrated across everything that we do. For a student to receive a 4, he or she needs to demonstrate consistent mastery (so on at least 2 or more assignments or assessments). If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. I want to make sure that grading is as transparent and simple as possible for all involved.
